I will be able to take you right in the middle of the nature and right in the heart of the national parl of the dolomites, famous chain of mountains situated in the northen part of Italy to se Cortina d’Ampezzo the pearl of the dolomites. Now the Dolomites are part of the U.N.E.S.C.O, and the landscape is really amazing. The name of the domomites come from Deodat Guy Silvain Trancrede Gratet de Dolomieu (dolomieu june 23rd 1750 – Chateauneuf november 26th 1801) he was a french geologist,and he discover the “dolomia” rocks. You will enjoy the marvellous riflections of the sunshine into the rocks, this colours goes from the light yellow of the sunrise to violet and blue during the sunset. Our trip will drive us to discover the birth place of Titian Vecelio in Pieve di Cadore, where he was born in 1480 and he lived here untill 1485, he died in Venice plague disease in agoust 27th 1576, a great painter that brought in Venice and not only a new style and colour. The peaks of the dolomites and the forests will accompany us to Cortina d’ Ampezzo famous skiing resort where they held the olympic games on the 1956. Nowadays it’s a famous holiday resort for winter and summer lovers, you will be able to find a bit for each taste nordic walking, horse ridings, paragliding downhill ski, cross-country ski….. We will have a nice break in the heart of Cortina to have some lunch and to take some pictures. Our tour will take us to see the mountains where Silvester Stallone done the movie Cliffhanger in the ’90. We will admire some alpine lakes and we will stop in Misurina for a little walk. We will continue to reach the “tre cime di lavaredo” at 6000 feet high. we will drive to go to Auronzo and then longarone to see from the distance the Vajont dam, that fall down in the 1963 and killed a lot of people. From here we wil continue to go back to your hotel.

Our first visit will cover up Oderzo, a really important center since the ancient Roman days, we will take a walk along the ancient roman roads and we will take some pictures. We will continue to see some wineries of the area and taste the famous wine of the river Piave. We will have a luch in Agriturismo (farms open to the pubblic adn are normal restaurant) to taste some homemade italian food. In the afternoon we will visit a 16th century villa and its winery, where we will taste some delicious red wine. From here we will procede to go back to the hotel.

Our first stop will be in Bassano del Grappa, little lowly town well renowned for differents reasons, our visit will star from the ” ponte degli alpini” a beautiful bridge disigned by Andrea Palladio, right here the architect started to disigned and create a lot of marvellus 16th century villas in neo-classical style. Bassano it is a great town at the bottom of the Grappa mountain, where we had a lot of battles during the war world, the houses in the heart of the city still have a lot of bullets holes, we will have a lovely stroll around the city center to see the medieval pawnshop, we will admire the frescos of jacopo da Bassano, we will see the medieval walls. We will be able to see all the shops with the local products like cheeses, asparagus, salamis, cakes, mushrooms pottery and ceramic. The Museum dedicated to the war world in the heart of the city it’s really interesting! We will continue our trip visiting one of the most famous grappa factory of the area. From here we will go back home.

We will continue to reach Possagno the birth place of Antonio Canova the sculptor, we can’t forget the “tre grazie” “amore e psiche” the funeral monuments! I can organise a private car a minivan or a coach with professional driver from your hotel in Venice or Treviso, with this itinerary we will be visiting the battlefield of the great war, we are going to discover the castles and the incredible country side and of course we will be tasting some local wine and native products. First of all we will drive to the river Piave, were they fighted the first war world, and where from the distance we will see the memorial dedicated to the soldiers that died in Nervesa della Battaglia. We will be following the itinerary of the great war and we will stop to take picture at the San Salvatore Castle. Important archeological site dated back of the paleolitic time during the longobard time it was a small ,it seams that the first castle has been built it up in the 1110 a.c.. From the 1312 the collalto family tooked control over this lands. In 1461 the castle was a franciscan monastery. In 1915/1918 has beed heavily bombed and nearly destroided …. almost all the castle has been recontructed and it still lies in his strategic position. In this area we will taste the first local wine.
After the wine tasting we will proced to visit the city of Conegliano, superb medieval center, original frescos are still present in the houses, we will be stopping in the Conegliano castle dated back to the 10th century and bulted up by the Belluno Bishops. Our visit will end in a local winery to enjoy some prosecco, from here we will go back to the hotel.

Our tour will take us to the hills of San Pietro di Feletto, to see the abbey dedicated to San Peter, it has been built it up on the top of a previous longobard building. The abbey is in romannesque with frescos dated back to 1200 and 1300. from here we will proced to see a little mill in Refrontolo, which has been built it up on the top of a solid rock, beautiful is the waterfall. After that we will continue direction Rolle, a little village in the middle of the hills with an incredible scenery and surrounded by the prosecco vineyard. Next stop will be in Cison di Valmarino to take pictures of the famous castle, adn close to it there’s the Claudia Augusta’s way, ancient roman road that is linking Venice to Augsburg (Germany), passing the Alps and Innsbruck and the marvellous Fernpass. One more stop will be in Follina to see 12th century abbey, important religious center. From here we will climb the hills of Combai well renowed for the chestnuts, from here in front of us we will have the capital of the Prosecco wine Valdobbiadene, where we will discover the secrets of the prosecco wine.

THE HIDDEN TREASURES OF THE VENITIAN COUNTRY SIDE

Often overlooked by the casual traveler, Italy’s “other” famous hill towns offer unique treasures all their own. Little faschinating tows full of history at the foothills of the Dolomites

ITINERARY
– Marostica, little medieval town whose medival fortifications are almost intact. All along the lenght of the walls are towers placed at regular intervals, Marostica is not a big town and it is centered around a large square called Piazza Castello, famous for the chess board painted on its pavement. According to the legend, in 1454, Rinaldo da Angarano and Vieri da Vallonara played an important live game of chess in Marostica on a huge chessboard, specially painted in Piazza Castello, to win the hand of Lionora, the daughter of the lord of the castle, Taddeo Parisio.
Since 1954 this challenge has been re-enacted every two years and has turned into a real town festival, with traditional 15th century costumes.
– Bassano del Grappa, crossed by the river Brent, is one of the most densely-populated and well-developed town in Veneto. As well as fast-growing industrial economy and a lively cultural activity, Bassano has a fine gastronomic tradition. Its tipical products are the asparagues and grappa.
All the town is full of buildings of fine taste, enriched with prescious ornamentation.
In the central Monte Vecchio square are the impressive Palazzo del monte di pieta’ and the Casa Dal Corno Bonato, the facade of which was frescoed by Jacopo da Ponte, known as il Bassano ; a few steps away, in Piazza della Liberta’, is the neoclassical church of San Giovanni built in the 1300s by the architect Giovanni Miazzi. The 15th century Loggia del Comune is also lovely. The pearl of Bassano is, however, its wooden bridge, designed by Palladio in this material as its flexibility would resist the raging Brenta river. It was damaged both by the river and by bombings, but it was always restored following the ideas of Palladio. The last restoration was in the second postwar period and it was due to the Alpine troops.
– Asolo, old walled hill town known as the town of ‘One Hundred Horizons’, Asolo is one of the most enchanting spots in Italy and the jewel of the Veneto region. Its great location and wonderful climate made Asolo a population centre right from prehistoric times and later a principal settlement for the Veneto people.It has been the beloved retreat for the poet Robert Browning and explorer Freya Stark.
– Villa Barbaro, completed in 1565, also known as the Villa di Maser, designed and built by Andrea Palladio, with frescos by Paolo Veronese and sculptures by Alessandro Vittoria for Danile Barbaro, Patriarch of Aquileia and ambassador to Queen Elizabeth I of England. The villa was added to the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1996.
